it's been a while

To anyone who still reads this blog: I am sorry that I have neglected London Calling in the past month. Things have been great, the family came and visited, and I'm still having a really great time. I am not ready to return home to the States in 2 weeks. I can't believe that my time abroad is coming to an end.

Anyways, my family's visit was great and I think they all had a very good time in London. ( My dad especially I think because he didn't have to use his phone or check his email for a week) Other that that I've just been hanging out with Nick in Reading and soaking up my last few weeks in good ole England. I'm definitely excited to come home and see all my friends, play with Brogan, eat Taco Bell, and have Digital Cable. Just not so ready to leave a certain someone just yet.

But the reason I decided to post again was because I was just informed of BREAKING NEWS.

Archie and Veronica are getting married! I am not happy about this because as an avid Archie comic book reader since about the age of eight, it has been clear to me that Betty is the girl for Archie.

And on another completely unrelated note...I saw this video of this little creature and thought I'd share. They talk about Pygmy Puffs in Harry Potter, and until I saw this video I thought they were just made up. I guess J.K. Rowling based them on these little guys.

Sorry I have been a horribly bad blogger the past month or so. I haven't been in London as much and don't have access to a computer. Everything is great here, it's St. George's Day (kind of like 4th of July) and there is a free BBQ at the pub so that's where I'm headed now.

And....Happy Birthday Poppy!! I loves you xo

These are all self-shots taken of me from spring break...I know I obviously look really good in all of them. I'm working on my model pose...

whaaa?

Vilhelm Lillefläsk’s Squeez Bacon® is fully cooked 100% bacon. Due to the patented electro-mechanical process by which Squeez Bacon® is rendered, it requires no preservatives or other additives. Each serving is as healthy as real bacon, and equivalent to 4 premium slices of bacon! You can put it on sandwiches, pizza, pastas, bacon, soups, pies, eat it hot or cold (warm Squeez Bacon® on toasted rye is to die for), substitute it for bacon in your recipes, or even eat it right out of the tube like we do! If it’s edible, it’s better with Squeez Bacon®.

And we wonder why obesity becomes a bigger problem everyday...

long time, no blog

Sorry I haven't been updating much recently, I've been away since this past Thursday! But anyways I know there are lots to catch up on including filling you all in on my spring break adventures. That is a post I am too tired to write at the moment so I am just going to say I will update soon with pictures and all. (Although this could be hard considering I took about 450 pictures)

On a more sour note---Today was not the best day.

I missed my flight to Barcelona because of stupid buses, cabs, and trains. I wish I knew someone with a car who could drive me to the airport. Although missing my flight isn't the end of the world like my dad said. So after a day of whining, tears, and McDonald's to make me feel better, I am now over the fact that I will not be enjoying a holiday in Spain (Okay, not really I need to go eat some chocolate to make me feel better and fittingly enough---that chocolate is a Cadbury egg!)

Anyways, Happy Easter everyone! I hope it's full of peeps, easter egg hunts, and large fluffy scary bunnies trespassing in your backyard.

ellooooo

Sorry for the lack of posts recently, Kelly was visiting for the week so I haven't been glued to my computer at 2 am like I normally am....

Anyways, we had a fantastic week! We went to the comedy store which is always so much fun, and we saw Wicked friday night. WOW!!! It was amazing, the sets, the COSTUMES!!, the singing, everything was phenomenal. the way they weaved in the Wizard of Oz (wicked is the prequel) was so clever and I highly suggest going to see it. I want to read the book now if I ever get the chance.

My parents were supposed to go while they were in NYC for the Big East but when they were walking to the show they realized their tickets were for Jersey Boys. (My guess is this is a mistake that should be blamed on ketel one and cranberry and crown royal)

Meanwhile, Car, Case, and Adam were in Marco visiting Nan and Pop and they looked like they had so much fun!! Saying I am extremely jealous is an understatement. Of course the first year since 7th grade everyone decides to go down to Marco is the one I can't go!

Hope everyone enjoyed their Spring Break :)

tee hee

This made me laugh really hard for some reason.
Bob Ross aka Painter of Trees Extraordinarre looks like a microphone (or at least his hair does)

whats goin' onnn

Today was a good day. Let me tell you why.

Nikki and I decided that we needed to take advantage of the rare bright blue sky and sun and walk around (which really means go shopping). So I dragged myself out of bed, put on my new favorite gray scarf and my way too expensive sunglasses that I haven't had too much a chance to wear, and took the tube to Oxford Circus.

Since we weren't exactly sure what we wanted to do first, we decided to get food because that is always a good idea. Because it was such a pretty day, we wanted to find a cafe where we could eat outside and admire the people walking along the sidewalks on London. We found a cute little Italian restaurant that we both have been saying we have to go to because it is right by one of our Westminster classes.

While we were sitting down waiting for our drinks (I ordered a Sprite and for some reason at Italian restaurants in London, Sprite=Lemonade, weird?) we were approached by an older fella looking for a piece of paper. Nikki had an old Burger King receipt so she gave it to him. Little did we know, he would return with a phone number written on it for "an overbooked single male model". Apparently this gent was a manager for the modeling company just around the corner and thought we would be a good match for his client. So, to call or not to call, that is the question.

Following our lunch, we went to HMV which is a massive DVD/CD store which has everything for really cheap. You can literally spend hours in there and they have every movie and CD you could ever want, besides Beauty and the Beast which is what I was looking for. It's probably in that damn Disney vault....speaking of: Why does Disney feel the need to do that?! We should be able to buy our childhood favorites at all times!

I purchased Harry Potter and the PHILOSOPHER's Stone (so British!) and Shakespeare in Love which I just watched and loved.

After going to Boots (like a big CVS) we were all shopped out and came back to good ole Lambeth North. I have just been cleaning my room and doing laundry while anxiously awaiting Kelly's arrival tomorrow morning! Then we leave for the Netherlands with Anthony and will meet Jessie, I can not wait.

I now have a tiny little space heater. Oh, it sure is the little things in life that make us happiest.

And now I'm off to O'Neills in Picadilly with some buds...Happy Start of Your Weekend my fellow college friends.

the heat in my dorm is broken. so i am now sitting on my hot laptop battery for warmth...i think i may need to go invest in a space heater.

scratch that

I burnt it. And it tastes bad. So this is how I feel now.

just like a 50's housewife

I just made a casserole! I feel so domestic. The ovens are different here and apparently the fan oven we have cooks things faster than normal so I'm hoping I don't burn it! Just call me Molly Cleaver.

Les Mis

Wow Wow Wow! I absolutely loved the show. I forgot how much of the score I know and was pleasantly surprised to find myself singing along in my head to a lot of the music.
Our seats were really good, on the floor and I was directly in the center. Besides the fact that I was sitting next to an incredibly rude 60 something British woman (my friend Chris says these are the worst kind esp. at the theatre!) I had a truly great experience at the Queen's Theatre last night.

The music is so powerful and the first scene where they sing "Look Down" really set the mood that the music was the center of the play. The man who played Javert had a good voice and stage presence and everytime he referred to Jean Valjean as "24601" I got the chills!

The art director for the show was brilliant in making the stage revolve in a circle because it made set changes effortless and the effect of people moving from one place to another looked really cool.
The actors themselves were really great as well, my favorite voice belonging to Eponine especially when she sang my favorite song "On My Own". The man and woman who played Mr. and Mrs. Thenardie (the owners of the Inn--and maybe better known to my fam as the couple who sing Master of the House) were fabulous. They were both really funny and engaged the audience as soon as they walked on stage.

The sets really blew me away, they were moved so easily and with a blink of the eye there was an entirely new set to look at and scene already in motion. The barricade set and scene were done flawlessy, I especially liked when everyone in the barricade was killed and they all moved in slow motion. Really cool.
Overall, I absolutely loved the show and am happy that I paid the extra 4 pounds for a program as well. Musicals are so uplifting and I must start going to more on a regular basis.

West End

Tonight I am going to see Les Miserables at the Queen's Theatre! I am so excited, Les Mis is one of my favorites and it will be the first musical I see here in London!

Oh I can just hear my mom singing "Master of the House" at 8 in the morning waking up Car and me on Vermeer and Jupiter.

I'll be sure to let everyone know how it goes!
